Stop listening to the noise about Nikita Kucherov leaving Tampa Bay. The coach has spoken clearly, and the team is not moving on him. Jon Cooper stated before Saturday’s game that Kucherov is “100% a part of this team.” He wants to finish the season with the group he loves.

This trade talk is just a distraction that the team will not accept. Kucherov did ask for a trade and gave a list of ten teams, but the front office shut that down fast. General Manager Julien BriseBois said in a Friday night statement, according to ESPN, “We unequivocally have no intention of trading Nikita.” The player is in the lineup for Saturday’s game against Nashville, proving the team is moving forward without drama.

Cooper Keeps Focus on the Ice

Jon Cooper knows that fans will watch every mistake and blame it on the trade rumor. He warned people not to get it wrong. If Kucherov turns the puck over or shows frustration, Cooper said that does not mean he wants out. The coach will run the team the same way he always has. Kucherov will play like the superstar he has been for a decade and a half.

Cooper believes the off-ice news might actually make the squad stronger. “I will sit here and tell you nothing has changed in what our goals are this year,” Cooper said. He noted that the context might change, but the aim remains the same. Holding the first wild-card spot in the East, Saturday found the Lightning with an 8-3-1 record. They need their best player, not a new roster.

A Player With Too Much to Lose

Kucherov has won the Stanley Cup twice and the Hart Trophy as MVP two times. He has played all thirteen of his NHL seasons in Tampa Bay. He turns thirty-four next June and is an unrestricted free agent next summer. He knows his value and the value of his history with this city.

The coach made it clear that Kucherov has earned the right to decide his future after the season ends. For now, the player is committed to the group that loves him. The trade request is now public, but the private reality is different. The team is not trading their best winger just because he submitted a list of destinations.
